Manpong, Ghana School Project | Queen Esther School 2010 |
|
VIDA is pleased to announce that the Manpong School is open as of
September 4, 2010. The community of Manpong is located in central Ghana.
There was no school for the more than 80 children in the area. Students
were educated in an apartment building and had to halt educational
activities every time it rained. Parents in the community became
frustrated with the poor state of educational infrastructure and were
beginning to remove their children from school altogether. A partnering
NGO alerted VIDA of the dire situation in Manpong. VIDA partnered with
the community in the planning of the new school and began construction.
VIDA volunteers traveled to the community and were welcomed by energetic
students ready to show their appreciation for the new school.
Here are several VIDA Board members and
volunteers visiting the construction site and current school site to
assess the progress and additional needs of the community. The Director
had just recieved a close down notice from the District Director of
Education.
Givology donations were used to send supplies
and build desks for the students in 2011. Please visit our Givology project page for details. |
